If you can, run. If not walk to see Ryan and you’ll run soon enough! I am a basket case formed from years of playing extremely hard and not doing the strength maintenance to grow older gracefully. Through Ryan’s vast knowledge and motivation I am moving better and growing stronger every week. Thanks to his work and somewhat to my commitment to do what he tells me I’m still playing as hard as ever. Go, commit to seeing him and doing the work and live your best life!

“After years of hard work on my application package, I was accepted into the Coast Guard Academy Office Candidate School. However, I was facing an issue: my knee and shoulder were still in pain from a car accident that happened three years ago. Even after seeking help from multiple chiropractic offices and physical therapists, I still wasn't ready for the rigorous basic training. With just two months left to prepare my body for OCS, I was willing to try anything.

One of my co-workers mentioned Ryan's work and how he had helped heal some persistent back problems. Ryan was optimistic about helping me achieve my goal from the very beginning. In our first session, he asked me to create a dream sheet outlining my goals. He not only wanted to relieve my pain but also help me run the next marathon or play pickup soccer again. Ryan had a systematic approach to working out what was causing weakness in my body. But the most valuable trait he had was his ability to explain how the body behaves. I was motivated to improve, and Ryan had the knowledge and approach to guide me. I learned more about how the body rests and recovers and the behaviors our muscles can have from everyday activities.

When I reported to training and started indoctrination week, I knew which stretches to do for my shoulder to keep it balanced. Ryan helped me with my running form to reduce unnecessary strain. I felt prepared and knew what my body needed when it was sore.

After completing OCS on April 5th, I can safely say that Ryan helped me achieve my dream of being commissioned into the NOAA Corps. I will spend the next few years in Kodiak, Alaska, on a fisheries survey vessel in the Bering Sea. I highly recommend Ryan to anyone who needs professional guidance to develop a healthy mindset with their body and to have a chance to keep doing what they love best.hatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.”

The thing I appreciated the most about my rehabilitation experience with Ryan was his ability to find ways to treat my symptoms and ease some of the pain I was feeling in the moment while simultaneously addressing the cause of the injury and working toward improved strength and function which lead to long term healing and injury prevention in the future.

He also found ways for me to modify and recalibrate my activities during rehabilitation so that I didn’t continue to lose ground in other areas in the meantime.

That balance was key to my recovery.

Ryan is extremely knowledgeable, about what it takes to get an athlete back on track after injury. He doesn’t just treat the specific injury, but understands how the body works together and I returned to running, stronger than I was before injury.

I can backpack again! This is me, at Snow Lake in the Hoover Wilderness, elevation 10,200 feet.

After a meniscus tear I got some bad physical therapy from my HMO, which made my problem worse. Then I found Ryan Mowbray, a physical therapist in private practice in Santa Rosa, California. Ryan is extremely knowledgable, kind, and respectful. He accepted my goals, which were being able to hike and backpack again, and to be able to carry my kayak. He was thorough and careful in his analysis, and ready to help me understand the reasons for the drills he assigned. If I couldn’t do a particular exercise, he had 4 or 5 others to try, and we always found one I could do that strengthened the target muscles. I came to him in March, barely able to walk comfortably, and was able to successfully complete a 9 day backpacking trip in the High Sierra in August. Ryan is always optimistic and encouraging. I wholeheartedly recommend him; he’s the best!

Before I started seeing Ryan for physical therapy, I was told that I may not be able to run long distance anymore. My hip flexors were in so much pain that I was having a hard time moving after long runs. Ryan helped with manipulation techniques and helped me strengthen the parts of my body that were weak and causing my hip pain. Months after seeing him I ran a 50 miler, 100k and then my first 100 miler and I owe it all to him! I still go to him frequently for cupping, active release therapy and general maintenance, he is the absolute best!

When I hurt my back before my marathon last year, 2 friends recommended Ryan to me as their go-to physical therapist. Now I go to Ryan for everything, and I would recommend him to any friend.

I started to see Ryan due to an ankle injury that affected my running performance and his full body approach to healing and building has helped my body so much! I have a better understanding of running and training mechanics and how my body specifically responds to certain approaches of therapy. His instructions for strengthening and rebuilding are effective and very easy to follow/understand. I've learned so much in such a short time and have seen major improvements in my healing/recovery time, strength, and running form. Highly, highly recommend Ryan for endurance athletes or anyone who takes their athletic training seriously.

Ryan is my hero. After being a competitive athlete, my body began breaking down. Ryan helped me through two knee surgeries, including a full knee replacement and a rotator cuff surgery.

At one point after the knee replacement surgery, I couldn’t fully bend or straighten my knee. I was depressed and in pain. Ryan quickly diagnosed the issue as a pinched nerve behind the knee. He used cupping, which Ryan had picked up through his specialist training and bam, I was back to walking (and eventually hiking, etc).

Through his kindness, intelligence and expertise, Ryan healed me and got me back to myself. We are forever grateful for Ryan and recommend him to anyone who’s trying to heal or improve their body.
